About Geo-Rapid
Established group of final year students, studying BSc. Geoinformatics at the University of Pretoria, Hatfield, for the purpose of completing a 3rd year project module with a proposed solution for challenges being faced in the community of Alaska, Mamelodi.
About GMT 320
A project module where an approved project is undertaken by each group and our studied techniques of data acquisition and processing are used, in a real life application, to produce useful spatially referenced information in the form of a project report.
About Alaska
An informal settlement located on the eastern perimeter of the main Mamelodi township in Pretoria.
About SAPRI
South African People’s Response Initiative (SAPRI) - aims to make Alaska a safer community through the provision of panic buttons that can used to call for assistance during emergencies.
About The VIVA Foundation
Their vision is to be instrumental in transformation of informal settlements and other high-priority poverty areas into stable and economically viable communities that provide young and old with opportunities for education, employment, business and recreation.
